Nelson Mandela´s cook

Xoliswa Ndoyiya from South Africa has cooked for Nelson Mandela for 19 years, spoiling many guests with his favorite dishes. For the gala evening at the World Money Fair on 3 February, she cooked together with the AXICA Catering Crew and chef de cuisine André Steuer, recipes from her published cookbook. Partner country of the World Money Fair this year is South Africa and with the evening the 50th birthday of the Krugerrand coin was celebrated. The menu would have tasted Nelson Mandela:

Patak-Curry-Soup with Okra and Yams, as the main course injean (stew), sherry, carrot, leek and celery sauce and as dessert trifle of pomegranate and banana, pistachio biscuit and orange parfait. The gala evening with 280 guests took place in the Bolle Festsäle and the decoration was entirely in gold - appropriate to the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand coin.

Prelude to the G20 presidency in the financial sector

Within a festive evening event at the 30 November 2016 in Berlin at AXICA, Germany took over from China the G20 Presidency in the financial sector. The speeches by Federal Finance Minister Schäuble, Federal Bank President Weidmann and China's ambassador to Germany Shi Mingde were framed by musical contributions by German and Chinese artists.
During the day, various sessions and a panel on international finance themes were held. The AXICA set-up team was in operation all day and designed each of the AXICA rooms in the shortest possible time for the various workshop formats and finally the FORUM for the evening event. For the guests always a surprising effect.
AXICA project manager Nina Ostheeren was delighted about the smooth running internally and the extremely trustworthy cooperation with the responsible persons from the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Leftover cooking at Berlin Food Night



AXICA CATERING was present at the Berlin Food Week for the first time this year and provided the culinary opening of the industry event at the Berlin Food Night held at Kraftwerk Mitte on 28 September 2015.


Gorden Peter, AXICA CATERING‘s Executive Chef de Cuisine, together with The Taste winner and TV chef Felicitas Then, up-and-coming star Anton Michel (“Anton kocht”), the banana bread bakers from “be bananas”, Ash Lee from the Chinese supper club Chi Fan, and ORA’s Christoph Mack, created a “flying service” menu which both showcased the strengths of each chef and did justice to the evening’s intention to avoid food waste entirely.


The temporary team of chefs met back in the summer at AXICA’s professional kitchen to work together on ideas for “leftover cooking”. The result was a menu in which each of the young chefs was responsible for one course:

The first course was a spent grain bread with carrot by Christoph Mack. The handmade bread was baked with spent grain, a residual product of the brewing process. In the second course, Ash Lee’s pigs’ ears with watermelon, only the white of the watermelon was used in the salad, along with finely sliced pigs’ ears – piquant, with Chinese seasoning.

Anton Michel prepared a trout à la meunière for the third course, using both the whole fish and lemons, potatoes and parsley in their entirety. For the fourth course, fried stewing meat with celeriac by Felicitas Then, the stewing meat was formed into balls and deep-fried, then served on a celeriac puree with celeriac greens. For the banana bread with avocado ice cream – be bananas’ fifth course – Lars Peter and Tim Gudelj used only bananas which wholesalers can no longer sell to the retail market because of minimal bruising. The same was true of the avocado for the ice cream.


The 600 invited guests from the catering, hotel and events industries thus enjoyed a varied and innovative menu from which there was literally nothing left over.

Petersberg Climate Dialogue



The ministers of the environment from 35 states met at AXICA for the fifth time on 18 and 19 May to attend the 'Petersberg Climate Dialogue'. This year saw preparation for the International Climate Protection Conference being held in Paris in December.

The climate experts sat around what was known as the 'blue table', specially installed in the glass-roofed Forum for the occasion. The conference was opened by Federal Minister for the Environment Barbara Hendricks and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius. The talks focussed on limiting global warming to a maximum of two degrees as well as the international cooperation on climate protection. The principal speakers at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue were Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and her French counterpart Francois Hollande.

As in the previous years, the event was very special for the AXICA staff. Apart from the tight security, the schedule that was planned down to the minutest detail and the perfect simultaneous interpreting service, looking after the international press also played a major role.

After the event had ended, AXICA project manager Nina Ostheeren received high praise from the organisers at the Federal Ministry for the Environment for the perfect organisation, the superb food and the level of commitment shown by all those concerned.

Event spring with 6 kind of best friends

6 kind of best friends teamed up for the "Event Spring 2015" in the German capital. The Umspannwerk Alexanderplatz opened its doors, AMANO Hotels mixed cocktails, Ambion provided event technology, Party Rent set up furniture, Blumen Damerius did the decorations and the AXICA. CATERING took care of catering for the guests.

THE AXICA kitchen crew devoted itself to the current trend "Beak to tail". This is all about making use of the whole animal and plant so that every part of a product is served. The chicken was the theme and could be enjoyed in its entirety: for example as chicken stock with braised spicy giblets, wings marinated in three textures, breast as schnitzel with the (obligatory) asparagus, and a chicken "ketwurst" 

(East German variation of the hot dog).

250 guests from the Berlin event scene attended - to celebrate the spring in all its culinary, decorative and festive aspects. And so the guests experienced the creations of their friends taking part first hand - true to the AXICA Motto: Expect the unexpected.

Automotive Event

A different kind of challenge for the AXICA: at the entrance area of the building should be issued a limousine. With great sensitivity the driver placed the Phaeton in position. The 200 Chinese guests who attended the conference and the dinner invited by the car manufacturer were not only impressed by the car, even on the architecture of the AXICA.

Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of the EU Commission Jean-Claude Juncker were welcomed by the President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Werner Hoyer, at AXICA on 2 March 2015 to the conference "Momentum for Europe". Entitled "Impulses for Europe – Innovation and Competitiveness“, the two-day EIB event was devoted to the challenges associated with funding and promoting innovation in Europe.

High-profile events such as these are high points for AXICA and entail particularly intensive preparation: schedules timed to the second, a sophisticated security concept as well as perfect coordination of catering and service.

Managing director Marc Mundstock was delighted by the positive feedback from the organiser.

"All of your staff worked alongside ours as if they were our own colleagues; it was professional, absolutely result-orientated and quite simply delightful. The question "What can a good speaker accomplish and which topic fits which event" was discussed extensively later at the get together with live and lounge music as well as exquisite catering. AXICA's technical partner satis & fy provided impressive staging of both the day programme and the evening event, rounding off the day.

AXICA Keynoter Summit


For MICE industry leaders, movers and shakers, as well as for distinguished conference speakers and presenters, all roads on the 31st October lead to Berlin’s cutting edge design location, the AXICA. Within its hallowed rooms next to the Brandenburg Gate five top German Keynote Speakers are hosting together for the first time a workshop aimed at raising the bar of speakers in events. This will be a one-off occasion in 2014 to see these top flight performers on stage together.

Set within the innovative architecture of Frank O. Gehry the wheels of inspiration, opinion exchange and communication will be further greased by the superb AXICA Catering. This summit, the first of its kind, will bring together opinion formers from across the industry.

A question of taste – pickings




AXICA and the eat!Berlin festival organizer and distinguished Sommelier Bernhard Moser hosted together an evening of gastronomic gratification in the
Pariser Platz 3 in February. Indulgence was the main theme, with the sub-text “how to combine the right wine with the right food?”. Moser gallantly and energetically led the evening and explained to the guests the poignant points of the food and wine combinations served before them, sometimes harmonious, sometimes with more contrasting tastes.


The gala menu from chef de cuisine Mirko Lummert began with foam of Chaouce-cheese with wild figs followed by a large selection of starters including salad of crayfish and garden cucumber with coconut and lime, duet of salmon and smoked salmon with orange, goose rillettes, Munster cheese with cranberry bread and hearty hazelnut cake and a duck consommé with cherry balsamic. The crowning glory of the piece, the main course, the meat for which being sourced directly from the organic farm of the local celebrities Max and Sonja Moor, was: Duet of water buffalo with bean variety with wild herb purée and spicy chilies. For the dessert AXICA‘s own in-house patisserie created a variation of dark chocolate and coffee.
For a change it was not the choice of food which dictated the wine, but the wine which dictated the matching food and flavors.


Alongside Bernhard Moser the guests were further entertained by the couple Sonja & Max Moor, Bordeaux-Hunter René Gabriel, the Comedy Duo Ass-Dur and Musician Fred Zedd.


The eat! Berlin Festival is colourful, crazy and brings many together people from different walks of life. It is an annual event and will take place next year from the 23rd February to the first March.
